Difference between emphysema and emphyema

Emphyema ( means "abscess" ) is collection of abscess inside body cavity that normally has no abscess. The body cavity in this term is usually pleura.


Emphysema is lung disease that can make difficult breathing. Emphysema and chronic bronchitis together are reffered as Chronic Obstrictive Pulmonary Disease ( COPD ). In emphysema there are abnormal permanent enlargement of air spaces distal to the terminal brochioles and destruction of alveoli wall without obvious fibrosis.
